Xiaomin Ruan joined the Population Research Center (PRC) at Portland State University in 2013. He coordinates the Oregon Population Forecasts Program and is responsible for preparing the coordinated Oregon state, county, and city population projections. Before coming to Oregon, Ruan served as the representative in the Federal State Cooperative Population Projections (FSCPP) program for the State of New Mexico for eight years.
An experienced statistical demographer, Ruan’s research focus includes population projection, small area forecast and estimation technologies, spatial filtering and spatial autocorrelation, GIS application and modeling for demographics, and time series analysis. Ruan participates actively in a variety of professional and academic communities, and serves as reviewer for multiple peer-reviewed journals.
