Sonia Marie Leikam is the current Executive Director of the Oregon Holocaust Resource Center, having stepped into the position after years as a committed volunteer. She graduated from Lewis and Clark College with a bachelors degree in History and Theatre Arts and from Portland State University with a Master’s in Education. She also holds a Certificate in Holocaust & Genocide Studies from Georgetown University. As a licensed middle and secondary level teacher with social studies and drama endorsements, she has also participated in multiple events at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. She works alongside community members by training educators in regional programs and is passionate about the need to use Holocaust education as a transformative experience for young people. As the grandchild of a partisan in the French resistance, and a first generation American, she spent her youth traveling between the San Francisco Bay Area and Southern France. Bilingual and multicultural, her passion is educating and making history relevant for young people today. Sonia Marie lives in Portland, Oregon with her loving husband, 2 sons and 2 cats.
