The School of the Environment is made up of four academic departments--Environmental Sciences and Management, Geography, Geology, and Systems Science--as well as the Institute for Natural Resources-Portland and the USGS Oregon Water Science Center. In addition to the undergraduate and Master's programs offered by the four departments, The School of the Environment offers the EES (Earth, Environment, & Society) PhD degree and the Systems Science PhD.
The School of the Environment bridges the gap between various environment-based disciplines, taking an interdisciplinary approach to our Doctoral program. The Earth, Environment, & Society Doctoral program provides an opportunity for the student to engage in relevant research while acquiring advanced academic training in Environmental Science & Management, Geology, or Geography. One of the goals of the program is to provide a broadly based understanding of the field of environmental science coupled with scientific training in one or more specialty areas.
