Satheara Sin is graduating cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in art studies and a minor in dance. Ms. Sin began performing traditional Cambodian dance with the Cambodian Dance Troupe of Oregon when she was ten years old, and in middle school she began doing theater. She performed in plays, musicals, and in choir throughout high school, and when she enrolled in college, she studied music with an emphasis in vocal performance.
Four years ago, Ms. Sin rediscovered her passion for musical theater and began taking dance classes, auditioning for shows in college as well as professionally, and concentrating on musical theater styles of singing. Ms. Sin was recently seen as Mae Jones in Street Scene, produced by the PSU Opera program this past April, and she can next be seen as a Dynamite in Hairspray at the Broadway Rose Theatre Company. In addition to singing and acting, Ms. Sin is also a professional back-up dancer for local music artists.
After graduation, Ms. Sin will be going to Cambodia as part of the Golden Leaf Education Foundation, a nonprofit group whose mission is to enhance educational opportunities internationally for children in need. In January, she will be moving to New York to pursue a career in musical theater.
