Profile

Britni Childs is a student employee who is blazing a trail in a critical and new field of student affairs at Portland State University. She is the first Women Veteran Outreach Coordinator for the Women's Resource Center (WRC) at PSU. In this role, Britni is reaching women veterans on campus to foster a successful transition from veteran life to student life. She is dedicated to serving women veterans and engaging the entire PSU campus on issues that impact women veterans (and their allies).
As a veteran and a student herself, Britni adds an authentic voice and has been instrumental in developing a successful outreach program at the WRC.
Britni is the key advisor to the Women Veteran's Outreach Action Team, and she has educated WRC staff and students alike in the needs of veterans on campus. She has also built alliances with the Veterans' Services Office, partners at PSU including Viking Vets, and other off-campus agencies.
Bridge D'Urso, Director of the WRC adds, "Britni has filled a great need on this campus. Women veterans face unique challenges in re-entry to civilian life and to many, these needs are best served outside of conventional veteran's services centers. Britni has developed events at the WRC which speak to the specific needs of women veterans as students. She has built a growing core group of students and caring staff allies who consistently attend our veterans events."
Britni's contributions at PSU have now been officially recognized. On April 11, 2012 PSU honored its outstanding student employees at an awards ceremony in Smith Memorial Student Union. Britni was awarded Runner up for Student Employee of the Year.
Aside from her warm and engaging personality, she's also a top student at PSU who is dedicated to academics. She will graduate in spring 2013 with a double major in Science and Health Science. Following graduation, Britni plans a career in nurse midwifery, where her many skills will only aid her future success.
