Steve Isaacson, PhD, is a professor in the Special Education Department in the Graduate School of Education at PortlandStateUniversity. He has taught graduate-level classes on learning disabilities and literacy instruction and has served in the field of special education for over 35 years. Prior to university teaching, Dr. Isaacson worked as a teacher and supervisor in special education programs in rural, suburban, and urban areas. For over 25 years, the focus of his research has been the assessment and teaching of writing skills to children and youth with learning problems. He has served as a consultant to school districts on literacy instruction and has given many workshops and conference presentations throughout the country. Dr. Isaacson’s publications include articles in several refereed journals, chapters in college texts, and professional monographs.
