Meet Professor Anita Bright

Anita Bright, PhD, is a faculty member in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. She has worked at American University in Washington, DC and the Fairfax County Public Schools as a secondary ESOL mathematics teacher educator. She received her doctorate in multicultural/multilingual education from George Mason University in 2009.

With nearly 20 years of experience in a range of public school settings, Anita Bright supports educators (and future educators) in learning how to tailor instruction to meet the unique needs of students from around the world. Focusing on language, culture, and mathematics education, Dr. Bright examines the ways power is distributed within education. As a National Board Certified educator, she frames her work as a co-learner with students, and facilitates courses in both the Bilingual Teacher Pathway (BTP) program and courses for educators offered through Continuing Education.
