Meet Marlon Marion

My childhood experiences in Portland, Oregon, stimulated an early interest in various languages which led me to study to become a Spanish professor; however, during my sophomore year in college, my interest shifted to the academic success of African Americans.  My interest in African American academic success stems from some of my experiences while attending Grambling State University, a predominately African-American University (HBCU) located in north central Louisiana.  It was during my undergrad years that it became apparent to me that, while African Americans are extremely intelligent, we lacked various forms of capital needed to successfully navigate higher education. What is worse is the resources were not readily available to help us.  It is for this reason that my role as the interim African American Student Service Coordinator is so important.  That being said please feel free to come by and visit me or email me which is the best way to reach me.
