As a pre-medical student, I thoroughly appreciate the University Honors Program's vision of fostering innovation and student inquiry. I have been persistently challenged and grown in ways that I attribute to the UHP's efforts. I am incredibly grateful for the faculty's endless support in my endeavors. Pursuing research at the National Institutes of Health has been one of the most incredible experiences in my pursuit of a career in medicine. I conducted studies to characterize changes in the host immune system of patients with multiple myeloma precursor disease. I have submitted an abstract to the American Society of Hematology (ASH) annual meeting in December 2011. Additionally, I plan to publish an original research paper. The relationships I made with the senior investigator and his colleagues are ones that I plan on maintaining throughout my medical career, as they have instilled values within me that are fundamental to my aspirations.
