Dave Roper, B.S. Mechanical and Materials Engineering, 2005
Dave took advantage of numerous opportunities at PSU. He participated in the Ecoroof Project for Multnomah County, a comparison of rainfall with runoff; Launch PSU, a balloon launch system that reached over 116,000 feet; Tau Beta Pi, an engineering honor society; the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) as chair of the PSU student chapter; an internship with a local aerospace company, Fliegen Works, Inc.; and his senior capstone project, "Pulse Thermal Loop," an advanced heat transport system for satellites.
Dave Roper transferred to PSU from Salt Lake Community College in Salt Lake City, Utah with an associate degree in chemistry. At PSU, he declared his degree in mechanical engineering and has never regretted it. "My professors have made all the difference," said Dave. "Mark Weislogel and Gerry Recktenwald are enthusiastic and their excitement involves students. Jack Devletian brings in hands-on experience and connects students to industry."
In 2004, Dave received the President's Award for Community Engagement for his volunteer work with the Boys & Girls Club of America, first volunteering in Salt Lake City then continuing his involvement in Portland.
