Profile

Meet Caliopy Glaros, Recruitment and Admissions Specialist for the Portland State Graduate Business programs. Caliopy has interacted with nearly every current and prospective student undergoing the MBA admissions process.
Caliopy moved to Portland from southern California, where she worked as a technical designer for St. John Knits after earning her degree in Apparel Industry Management.
Motivated by a desire to do more meaningful work and to move to Portland, Caliopy came to Portland State University.
While earning her degree in East Asian Studies, Caliopy worked in the Graduate Business Programs office as a student worker, a position that involved some admissions advising. When the full-time position for an Application Processor opened up, she applied. Since then, her role has continued to evolve.
As a Recruitment and Admissions Specialist, Caliopy helps students with every step of the application process, from advising to submitting the admissions documents. The most challenging part of her job, she says, is helping all of the different students with various steps in the application process at the same time. Applicants do not move through the process at the exact same speed or order, so her job requires quite a bit of multitasking. She says that all of her hard work is all worth it when she sees the students at orientation and they recognize her, even though they may have never met face-to-face!
When she gets the chance, Caliopy loves to travel alone. She describes it as an empowering, yet humbling experience that inspires her and makes her grateful for humanity. She has traveled all over the world and her favorite places include Japan and Iceland. Caliopy is also fluent in Japanese and feels that her intercultural experience aids in the dialogue with students, both domestic and foreign. With students from 50 different countries applying to the School of Business, intercultural competency is critical to engaging with them.
In her spare time, Caliopy likes to make her own clothes and write fiction. She also writes a blog about her travels and fashion.
Caliopy is a wealth of knowledge about all the graduate business programs, so if you're a prospective student, it's likely that you've already had some interaction with Caliopy via email, phone or in person. We are so glad she is a long-time part of the Graduate Business Programs team!
