Meet Anousha Sedighi - Persian

Anousha Sedighi (2005) Ph.D.

Dr. Sedighi received her Ph.D. in Persian Linguistics from the University of Ottawa in Canada. She directs the Persian Program at PSU and teaches courses on Persian language, culture, and literature. Dr. Sedighi is the recipient of the several awards, fellowships, and grants including the Best Paper Award of the Canadian Linguistic Association, the Roshan Cultural Heritage Institute Fellowship, and the PARSA Community Foundation grant through which she was able to bring to PSU a renowned professor of Persian Literature, Prof. Dick Davis during 2012. Dr. Sedighi's research interests include Persian linguistics, Persian language pedagogy, and Persian as a Heritage language. She has authored several articles and two books. Her second book, Persian in Use: An Elementary Textbook of Language and Culture was published by Leiden University Press in 2015 as part of their Iranian Studies Series. Her first book, Agreement Restrictions in Persian, was published by Purdue University Press & Rozenberg and re-published by University of Leiden & University of Chicago press. Her book adopts Chomsky’s Minimalist Program to examine Persian language agreement patterns. Dr. Sedighi is the co-designer of the Computerized Assessment of Persian Proficiency tests in collaboration with Center for Applied Second Language Studies at the University of Oregon and the Kevorkian Center for Near East Studies at New York University. She is also the designer of the advanced and superior level Content Based Instructional Material as part of the fCBI Path project of the Middle East Studies Center at PSU. Dr. Sedighi is the president of the American Association of Teachers of Persian and serves in the Executive Board of the National Council on Less Commonly Taught Languages.
