Clean Challenge Semi-Finalist: Photocatalytic Water Purification System
Clean Challenge Semi-Finalist: Photocatalytic Water Purification System

Clean Challenge semi-finalists Simon Fowler, Emilio Molina and Esteban Rodriquez-Ariza propose building a solar-powered, point-of-use water filtration system. Using a unique method of magnetic photocatalyst recycling, the system will purify water of organic contaminants using only energy from the sun.

The team imagines an inexpensive, efficient and sustainable filtration device for use in buildings as diverse as hospitals and homes.

In the wake of their successful pitch, the team plans to use their $5,000 in development funds to purchase materials, develop their technology, test the system and build a prototype. A clean technology such as this could change the way we process municipal waste water at a massive scale, leading to fewer chemical pollutants in ecosystems and ground water supplies.
