Peggy graduated Portland State in 1959 with a degree in education. She had majored in music for two years singing soprano, however her parents urged her to get a teaching degree as “something to fall back on.” That had a lot to do with social conditions; it was only a year before she graduated that the first African American woman, Gloria Davy, sang at the Metropolitan Opera. During her time at Portland State, Peggy was the only African American in the music department.

Portland State Alumnus Douglas Soesbe is a story analyst and editor working for NBCUniversal. He recently wrote a feature film entitled “Boulevard.” It is being shot in May of this year with Robin Williams starring. It will be directed by Dito Montiel, whose film, A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, is a previous Sundance winner.

The first building on the PSU campus, Lincoln Hall was previously a high school. It is now the lively center of campus performing arts.

Dan Vance '97 has made an independent film in Arizona with a camera of his own design.

The Bel Canto Festival allowed PSU music students to learn through public performances with major international performers and composers throughout the Portland area.

This partnership combines the practical filmmaking resources of the NWFC with PSU's academic expertise. Students can take classes at the NWFC for PSU credit, and vice versa. Students are able to concurrently register for individual classes, pursue a BA or BS in Film and/or a Minor in Film Studies in the School of Theatre & Film at PSU, and pursue a Certificate in Film Studies at NWFC.

This partnership allows PSU to host some of the finest chamber ensembles in the world on campus and provides master classes with these ensembles for PSU students.
