HR Generalist Certificate

Our popular HR certificate has provided concrete tools to students all over the northwest for over 25 years. We offer an in-depth look at the HR business function by focusing on relevant legal updates and current best practices. Our instructors are experienced leaders in the Portland metro HR sector who bring the latest issues, materials and workplace solutions to the classroom.

To earn the certificate, complete the six required courses within three years. The courses are offered multiple times during the year and we recommend you begin with Management of Human Resources to start your program. Click on the course titles below to see course descriptions and to register.

Suggested Prerequisites

There are no required prerequisites to complete before taking classes in the PSU HR certificate program. Many of our students hold bachelors degrees, but it is not required to take our courses.

It is suggested that students take Management of Human Resources (BH101) prior to all other courses in the program. Employee and Labor Relations (BH302) should be completed before Basic Principles of EEO (BH102) and Compensation (BH102) should be completed before Benefits Management (BH311).

Advanced HR: Conflict Resolution or Organizational Development

We also offer two Advanced HR certificate options for students who have already completed Human Resource Generalist Certificate - a concentration in Conflict Management or Organizational Development. Simply complete two additional courses in either topic to earn the Advanced Certificate.

Conflict Resolution concentration:

Organizational Development concentration:

Note: you must have completed the HR Generalist certificate in order to earn the Advanced HR certificate. We encourage you to complete the HR Generalist courses before taking Advanced courses. Also, all of our program courses qualify for Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) credits to maintain PHR certification.
