Head Start Community Assessment Reports

Population Research Center prepares assessments of the community for Head Start Programs in Multnomah County - including Portland Public Schools (PPS) Head Start, Albina Head Start, Early Head Start Family Center of Portland, and Mt. Hood Community College Head Start.

The federal Head Start Bureau routinely monitors local performance to ensure that Head Start programs consistently provide appropriate services. Regularly gathering information about Head Start's community needs and resources is key to assuring that local programs continue to adequately serve children and families. The purpose of the Community Assessment is to determine the needs of the Head Start community, evaluate the relevance of services provided by the Head Start programs, and to make recommendations for service improvements. PRC describes the demographic and socio-economic composition of the Head Start community, thereby providing evidence of need for services. Head Start staff are then able to make program evaluations and recommendations.
