Land Ownership and Protected Areas
As part of the Oregon Gap Analysis Project, the Oregon Biodiversity Information Center developed a GIS coverage showing the distribution of Protected Areas in Oregon. This coverage is maintained by ORBIC, although the new GIS cover is linked to a Public Lands Ownership Layer, which is being maintained for the state by the Oregon Department of Forestry. Maps showing these areas by major owner and another by GAP status (1 being most protected, 4 being not protected) are shown below. The stewardship coverage is continually updated as new areas are protected or designated, or as land ownership patterns change.
The Land Ownership coverage developed by ORBIC is posted at the Oregon DAS GEO Spatial Data Library under L, for Land Management. Several other public land coverages are also available at this site.
