Climate Action Plan Implementation Team (CAP-IT)

CAP-IT is tasked with implementing strategies to meet the goals of our Climate Action Plan (CAP). Strategies may include a range of activities that result in greenhouse gas reductions in building energy use, materials consumption, travel, and transportation. The CAP-IT sets priorities and interim goals, establishes tracking metrics to evaluate effectiveness, creates and manages financing strategies, lobbies for institutional buy-in, and informs annual progress reporting.

CAP-IT is composed of subcommittees that address target areas from the

2010 Climate Action Plan

Other members on a project-by-project basis

  1. Reduce energy use per square foot 25% below 2000 levels through demand management practices.
  2. Generate 80% of total building-related energy use from local, renewable sources.
  3. Increase efficiency of the energy systems by 50% (using a 2000 baseline).
  4. Reduce total energy use by 10% (using a 2000 baseline) through better utilization and scheduling of buildings.
  5. Track and integrate all revisions to the commercial buildings code that deal with climate change.

Collaborative effort between Facilities, Academic Scheduling & Campus Events to modify building scheduling procedures in order to increase efficiency of building occupancy loads, consolidate usage into the most efficient buildings, and minimize associated utility usage.
