The Physical Education Program is charged with developing students’ knowledge and skills in physical activities. Physical Fitness is an essential component of a quality educational environment. Vigorous activity has been proven to be complimentary to learning through strengthening the body while engaging the mind. Research has shown that regular physical activity improves memory, reasoning and improved self-esteem.
The program is designed to provide students the opportunity to participate and experience a wide range of activities and lifetime sports which challenge both mind and body so they may draw benefit throughout their lifetime.
The mission of the Physical Education program is to provide Portland State University Campus community with a diverse collection of learning experiences in physical and mental wellness through physical fitness, sport and dance. The range of the program is broad, providing depth and variation of instruction appropriate for all levels of ability within an elective format.
