Toshimitsu Shigemura, a professor at Waseda University in Tokyo and a renowned scholar of North Korea, will present a free public lecture “A Japanese Perspective on North Korea” at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, at Portland State University (PSU). It will be held at 328 Smith Memorial Student Union, 1825 SW Broadway.
His lecture will cover:
• U.S. and North Korean nuclear negotiations and “clashes of mutual ignorance of culture,”
• The new leadership in North Korea, and its relationship with China and South Korea,
• The diplomatic conflicts between Japan and South Korea, and
• The future of the U.S. alliances with Japan and South Korea.
