Built in 2005 by a coalition of students from PSU student group SustainUrth, capstone classes along with the help of numerous natural builders including Bernhard Masterson, Kiko Denzer and Scott Howard, the the Dialogue Dome (aka the "Shack") is a prominent symbol on the PSU campus as a place for people to connect with eachother and with the natural world. But with no protection from the elements on the western and eastern sides, this outdoor classroom is prone to weathering.
First repaired in 2008 by PSU Professor Pedro Ferbel-Azacarte and Scott Howard, this bench is a testament to what it takes to build with earth in the Pacific Northwest. Earthen building is all about creating relationships with eachother on site, as well as the structure itself.
This year, we are happy to have Jorie Kennedy, a natural builder who recently moved to Portland from Olympia guiding us as we redo the earthen plaster at the base of the bench.
