From the breakfast, you will proceed to New Student Convocation where you will meet and hear from distinguished PSU representatives and learn more about the fall 2011 entering class. After the New Student Convocation ceremony, you can participate in an activity with other new students that will end at Party in the Plaza. Party in the Plaza will include a live band, free food from the Old Spaghetti Factory, giveaways, and field day activities! We are excited to formally welcome you into the PSU community!

Bagby Backpacking

Join us for a wonderful backpacking trip and journey into the remote reaches of the Opal Creek Wilderness. Hike through stands of centuries old fir, hemlock, and cedar trees, and travel through deep canyons for views of the Cascades extending from Mt. Hood to the Three Sisters. Much of the Opal Creek watershed remains untouched and the only way to see it is on foot. Participants should be physically fit as daily mileage will be between 5 and 10 miles. The ODP will provide food and backpacking gear. We will finish our trip at Bagby Hot Springs. $50 per person. For more info, visit www.pdx.edu/recreation. Join us for a three day class geared towards first-year freshman (MGMT 199) and new transfer students (MGMT 299) interested in Business as a Major. Make a Short Film!

We'll provide the script, equipment, actors, and film set, and you provide the creativity! Join us for a three day class geared towards first-year freshman (MGMT 199) and new transfer students (MGMT 299) interested in Business as a Major. Students in Service (SIS) is a part-time AmeriCorps program that offers noncompetitive scholarships to students who participate in community service, service-learning, unpaid service-related internships, service based student organizations, and community service work study jobs. The SIS program offers each student member the opportunity to complete a 300 hour term of service. Upon successful completion of a term of service, members are eligible to receive an education award. 300 Hour Term of Service = $1,175 Education Award, which can be applied towards outstanding federal student loans or the cost of college attendance. The brothers of phi delta theta will take freshmen around downtown Portland, showing them local restaurants, markets, shops, places of interest, governmental offices that will help incoming freshmen adapt to life on campus. Tours leave at 10 AM, 12 PM, 2 PM, 4 PM, and 6 PM.

Student Garden Work Party! (NEW Time)
Hosted by: Environmental Club and the Ecological Restoration Guild (SG)
Join the Environmental Club and the Ecological Restoration Guild in reclaiming neglected natural areas this fall. We will begin on Viking Days preparing areas with invasive species removal, litter removal, and cover crop planting. Throughout Fall term we will have additional work parties to plant more native species, maintain planting, and beautify these spaces. We will meet at our office, the GreenSpace (SMSU 28), to prepare and then we will disperse to work areas around campus.

Get your war paint on and join us under the lights for an evening of field day events. Play ultimate Frisbee, kickball, penalty kickoff, or human foosball! Portland Adventure Hike!

Meet the Environmental Club at our office, the GreenSpace (SMSU 28), and then head out on a 10-mile adventure hike through Washington Park, Pittock Mansion, and Forest Park! Portland has so many great natural areas within walking distance from campus, so come prepared to learn all about them! Bring a lunch, hiking shoes, and water. We will provide morning refreshments.
