Bagby Backpacking
Hosted by: Campus Rec (UD)
Join us for a wonderful backpacking trip and journey into the remote reaches of the Opal Creek Wilderness. Hike through stands of centuries old fir, hemlock, and cedar trees, and travel through deep canyons for views of the Cascades extending from Mt. Hood to the Three Sisters. Much of the Opal Creek watershed remains untouched and the only way to see it is on foot. Participants should be physically fit as daily mileage will be between 5 and 10 miles. The ODP will provide food and backpacking gear. We will finish our trip at Bagby Hot Springs. $50 per person. For more info, visit www.pdx.edu/recreation. Did you know that you can earn an education award (scholarship) for the time you spend volunteering? Students in Service (SIS) is a part-time AmeriCorps program that offers noncompetitive scholarships to students who participate in community service, service-learning, unpaid service-related internships, service based student organizations, and community service work study jobs. The SIS program offers each student member the opportunity to complete a 300 hour term of service. Upon successful completion of a term of service, members are eligible to receive an education award. 300 Hour Term of Service = $1,175 Education Award, which can be applied towards outstanding federal student loans or the cost of college attendance.
