Meet Professor Anna Yatsenko

Originally from St. Petersburg, Russia, Anna Yatsenko earned her Ph.D. in Language Teaching Pedagogy, at Herzen State Pedagogical University, St. Petersburg, Russia. She has taught Russian language as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Russian as a Foreign Language at Herzen (1994–2003); as a Russian Language Scholar at Reed College, Portland, Oregon (1999–2001); as an Instructor at the Middlebury Russian School (2002–2005); as a Visiting Lecturer in the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures at the University of Texas, Austin (2002–2003); and as a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Russian Department at Reed College (2003–2009). She is the author of two textbooks for foreign students of Russian: The Russian Sound System: Pronunciation Guide (2004), and Concessive Semantics in Contemporary Russian (2001). She is co-author with Benjamin Rifkin and Olga Kagan of a textbook for English-speaking students Advanced Russian through History (Yale University Press, 2006). Professor Yatsenko's research focuses on Russian grammar (syntax), stylistics and socio-linguistics, and methodology and the practice of teaching Russian (at the different levels). Dr. Yatsenko enjoys teaching at PSU for the opportunity to work with--and learn from--students with different life experiences and points of view.
