Current Dean and Vergil Miller Professor
Current Associate Dean of Graduate Programs
After nearly 30 years of service in the School of Business, including 14 years as Dean, Scott Dawson is leaving his position to become dean of Orfalea College of Business at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.
Scott Marshall, Associate Dean for Graduate Programs, has been named Interim Dean. During his six years as Associate Dean, Marshall has led the development and launch of more new masters programs and program revisions than anyone in the history of the SBA, demonstrating his capabilities to step into the role of dean. Marshall will assume the role on Aug. 1, and will serve until June 2015 or until the University hires a permanent replacement. We will launch an international search for a new dean this spring.
Dean Dawson has had many significant milestones during his 14-years as Dean, including crafting the MBA into the school's flagship program, leveraging the faculty's strong ethos around sustainability, and set the stage for launching four new specialized masters. Dawson also led the development of a new business school building that will triple our current footprint. Construction of the $60 million project is scheduled to start March 2015 and will be ready to move into in January 2017.
"I continue to be very happy at PSU and was not looking to leave, but given my 14-year tenure as dean, the time was right to consider a new opportunity," Dawson said. "While I am excited about that opportunity, the sadness, of course, is that I will be leaving so many great, supportive friends. Serving as dean of the SBA has been a real honor. I know that Scott Marshall is ready and able to continue our momentum in the coming years."
The School of Business Administration would like to thank Dean Dawson for his invaluable leadership over the past 14 years, and while we are sorry to see him go, we wish him the best in his new home at Cal Poly!
