Civil and Environmental Engineering MS Project Presentation: Sam Monsef
Wednesday, March 20, 2013 - 12:30pm

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is pleased to announce Sam Monsef's MS Project Presentation: "An Exploration of Bicycle-Motor Vehicle Crash Types and Causes in Portland-Metro, Oregon."

Date: Wednesday, March 20, 2013
Time: 12:30pm
Location: Engineering Building 315 (ITS Lab)
Adviser: Dr. Christopher Monsere

There is a critical need for traffic safety improvements to reduce the number of fatalities and incapacitating injuries on the road. This research project investigates ways to improve traffic safety, focusing specifically on bicycle-motor vehicle (BMV) crashes at intersections in an effort to understand how and why these crashes occur, how to predict which intersections are high risks and measures to improve safety. BMV crashes were investigated for Oregon and in addition, a more detailed crash analysis was performed using crash typing and spatial analysis for the Portland metropolitan area in Oregon.
