Online Class Support
Portland State University offers online learning through the Desire2Learn (D2L) system and an online collaborative learning tool through Blackboard Collaborate.
Desire2Learn (D2L) is Portland State University's online learning management system (LMS). You can access D2L by going to d2l.pdx.edu and signing in with your Odin account.
For basic support, take a look at the Office of Academic Innovation's D2L tutorials. These tutorials cover issues like managing your course, getting logged in, and finding functions or tools. (Note: If you are a faculty member and your students are reporting that they cannot view your course, please take a look at the tutorial on Activating A Course to ensure that yours has been activated.)
If you were unable to resolve your question by viewing these tutorials, contact the Helpdesk. The Helpdesk can assist you in using basic D2L functions such as logging in. For more advanced issues, you can submit an E-Learning Support Form.
Collaborate is a virtual classroom environment, that allows faculty to present to dozens of students online. It includes screen sharing, video conferencing, recording, D2L integration, and live sessions. You can access Collaborate if you have a moderator account at Collaborate.
PSU faculty and staff can get a Collaborate account by requesting one using the E-Learning Support Form. Participants in Collaborate sessions do not need an account to join, they will simply click a hyperlink that is created for each session.
These departments can provide further D2L support:
- Integrated Digital Support Center (IDSC): The IDSC can help faculty members needing assistance with D2L course design. To schedule an appointment with the IDSC instructional designer, submit a help request or call 503-725-9111.
- Office of Academic Innovation (OAI): OAI can help faculty, staff, and students with D2L training and advanced functionality issues.
If you need help getting started with Collaborate, the Collaborate Knowledge Base is very helpful. Collaborate also offers free online training; visit Live On-line Events to see a schedule and sign up.
