In 1991, the University Club Foundation was organized to recognize and encourage scholarship, leadership, and potential societal contributions among students pursuing graduate education in Oregon. Since its inception, the Foundation has awarded over $387,500 to more than seventy-five students pursuing excellence in academics in the areas of the fine arts, humanities, and sciences.
The University Club Foundation annually awards four $5,000, merit-based scholarships to one qualifying graduate student from each of four universities in Oregon: Portland State University, Oregon State University, the University of Oregon, and Willamette University.
In addition to the monetary reward, recipients receive a three-year, complimentary membership in the University Club, which includes complimentary admission to three major Club events and an opportunity for graduate students to build a professional network.
This year's nominees from Portland State also included Samuel E. Guerrero and Taryn Mudge.
