Session Description:

Portland State’s engagement initiatives are widely distributed throughout all parts of the campus. The PSU motto, “let knowledge serve the city” comes alive in courses and scholarly work where faculty, community partners, and students collaboratively engage to respond to collective interest We will use this session to help participants understand and distinguish between the various opportunities for community-based research and teaching and will help participants navigate the existing support systems for Community-based Participatory Research can be used to enhance communities and build out a strong research portfolio.

We would welcome any specific ideas from you about topics or resources you would like us to come prepared to discuss at this lunch event. Please indicate your suggestions on the registration form and we will do our best to respond with an agenda that meets your stated needs and interests.

Pre-session background reading:  

The session will address some of the discussion items from chapter 18 of The Essential College Professor by J. L. Buller. If you did not receive a copy of the book from the New Faculty Orientation, you may borrow the book from the Library Reserve (ask for the book listed as OAA 001) or the Office of Academic Innovation resource library in SMSU 209m.
