Course & Program Design
OAI works in partnership with individuals and groups on design and redesign of individual courses and programs intended for face-to-face, online and community-based environments. OAI works directly with faculty and academic units to support educational innovation and change by offering individual consultations and department, faculty and university-wide workshops. We also provide online resources, tutorials, tips and further reading to help you prepare your course on our Resources page.
Specific Services for Online Courses and Programs
The Office of Academic Innovation provides specific support for online courses and programs.
Instructors can contact OAI for individual consultations on developing and teaching online courses.
For the design or redesign of entire programs, OAI provides a workshop series focused on the various aspects of online teaching (organizational, technological and pedagogical). The goal is for faculty to emerge from the workshops with a fully built course, and with the technical facility to deliver that course.
These workshops are defined in collaboration with a program lead at the department and are always tailored to the needs of the project or the different skills levels of the participants. We strive for a high ratio of instructional designers to faculty in the sessions, with an emphasis on small group work and course building. Sessions can be face-to-face or online. Classroom-based sessions will take place in our Design Studio and Media Labs.
Specifically for questions or inquiries related to the use of instructional technology (D2L & Google +), OAI works closely together with OIT to provide robust support via the IDSC. At the end of Fall 2013, this service will move to OAI.
