Portland State University Strategic Resource Management Principles

Portland State University aspires to set a standard for urban universities in the 21st century. Our motto, "Let Knowledge Serve the City" inspires our leadership across the region, the state and the nation. Our guiding principles are to:
- Insure that the university preserves enduring intellectual values while remaining relevant to societal needs in all fields including those that touch on social, economic, and cultural developments.
- Create a learning environment that is student centered, accessible, develops the talents of a diverse student body, and reflects PSU's scholarship in action.
- Support a diverse faculty of distinction who combine the best of teaching and research excellence in undergraduate and graduate education.
- Foster innovation, creativity and technological leadership for the benefit of the institution and the community.
- Enrich and lead through community based learning, scholarship and service that is market responsive and built on partnerships.
- Internationalize the University culture through student and faculty exchanges, partnerships, international student recruitment, and development of curriculum and programs.
- Create centers of excellence, where scholarship and research are central to program quality, and where each center responds to societal needs and contributes to the university's national and international reputation.
- Enhance the long-term financial viability of the institution through diverse funding streams with an appropriate balance of teaching, research and public service.
To achieve the goals set forth in the Strategic Resource Management Principles, Portland State will adhere to the following criteria for program, infrastructure and facilities investments/reallocation:
