Opportunities for successful resettlement of the Somali Bantu
Student Project: Refugee Consulting
RefugEEE Consulting has worked with the National Somali Bantu Project (NSBP) to define place-based strategies for successful refugee resettlement. Our work will be used as a decision making tool for approximately 200 Somali Bantu refugees currently relocating to the Portland Metropolitan Region over the next year.

Based on extensive research showing the value of cultural continuity, our approach seeks to mitigate negative outcomes that can often accompany refugee resettlement in the United States. Premised on the Somali Bantu's agricultural tradition, our place-based approach combines three focal points for building community: agricultural activity, a community center, and owner-occupied housing.
