Meet Professor Helen Young

Helen Young, EdD, is a senior research associate in the Special Education Program at Portland State University. She teaches graduate courses in research design and is the faculty advisor for the autism focus area. She also teaches courses in the PSU Autism Certificate Program, that prepares educators to use research-based information and instructional strategies to more effectively educate children with autism.

Since 1998, she has served as project coordinator for the Autism Outcome Study Regional Programs Autism Training Sites (RPATS) project. This collaborative project between PSU and the Oregon Department of Education, provides training and support to educators and parents, and monitors the educational progress of the children with autism.

Her research and scholarly interests include autism spectrum disorders; evidenced-based curriculum and instructional strategies; assessment; and collaborating with community partners, families, and educators to improve outcomes for children with disabilities.
