Meet Professor Paula Stanovitch

Paula J. Stanovich, PhD, is a professor in the Department of Special and Counselor Education at Portland State University where she directs the Inclusive Elementary Educators Program, a two-year master’s degree program that leads to licensure in both special and general education. She completed her doctorate in instruction and special education at the University of Toronto where she also co-directed the Supporting Effective Teaching research project. Dr. Stanovich has had extensive experience teaching students with significant and multiple disabilities and has conducted research into the effective inclusion of students with disabilities in general education classrooms. She is an ardent advocate of disability rights with a special interest in society’s treatment of persons with intellectual disability. Her research interests include inclusive education, effective teaching, and attitudes toward persons with disabilities.
