Andrea Zittel will discuss her unique furniture, dwellings, and clothing—Designs for Living—Monday, Oct. 13, at 7:30 p.m. in 212 Shattuck Hall. Zittel is the first of 25 visiting artists scheduled to share their work during the popular
MFA Monday Night Lecture Series. All events in the series are free and open to the public.
Zittel’s work embraces both aesthetics and fundamental human concerns such as food, shelter, and clothing. Her handmade “uniforms” are currently on permanent loan to a Swiss museum, and she has produced highly efficient and compact furniture designs and housing units. Zittel’s sculptures and installations have been featured in hundreds of exhibitions in the U.S. and abroad, and she has won numerous awards.
Other artist featuring in the MFA Monday Night Lecture Series include writer and educator Hamza Walker of the Renaissance Society at the University of Chicago; conceptual/fashion/installation artist J. Morgan Puett; and celebrated performance, public, and “maintenance” artist Mierle Laderman Ukeles.
