The Portland Committee for Human Rights in the Philippines
(Portland CHRP), Portland State University Kaibigan - Filipino American Student
Association, and the Portland Community College Sylvania Multicultural Center
converge to host a workshop geared toward mobilizing Filipino immigrants for human
rights.
You are invited to this free community workshop to engage in a critical
dialogue about the worsening human rights violations in the Philippines and the U.S., and discuss strategies for
mobilizing the community.
Workshop participants will also learn about the national
campaign, GMA Watch: Philippine Human Rights Monitoring Network, which aims to pressure
congress to support restrictions of military aid to the Philippines. Portland CHRP believes
the Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is to be held accountable for
the hundreds of extrajudicial killings and abductions, increased political
repression, severe corruption and plunder, and deteriorating socio-economic conditions
for the Filipino people.
Guest speaker Dr. Peter Chua.

Where: Smith Memorial Student Union, room 296
