Academic Leadership Development Series for Department Chairs

The Office of Academic Affairs will sponsor an Academic Leadership Development Series for department chairs and directors from academic units. The Series of four sessions will help you successfully lead specific initiatives identified as crucial to your department’s success.  Simultaneously, the sessions will focus on specific leadership competencies necessary for helping you, and your unit, achieve success more generally.

 

Why should you attend:

  • Specific, timely, and relevant information that you need to be successful;
  • The opportunity to get relevant work done within the sessions;
  • An opportunity to influence and/or participate in University decision-making;
  • The exchange of fresh ideas and differing perspectives on important topics;
  • The opportunity to learn from your colleagues;
  • Knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to empower you as a leader;
  • An awareness of leadership competencies that will help you bring your colleagues with you as you move your department, school/college, and University forward; and
  • Confidence to provide the leadership necessary for your department’s success.

2013 - 2014 Coffee Chats

Once a month, new and seasoned chairs are invited to participate in casual conversations to brainstorm, problem solve and talk about leadership/management challenges. These chats, facilitated by Carol Mack, are an opportunity to discss topics of interest to the participants and to further develop competencies introduced during the Leadership Development series.
