Unclassified refers to State employees whose employment rules and policies are established by the State Board of Higher Education and Portland State University. Unclassified employees are either unrepresented, or represented by one of two faculty unions, the AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF UNIVERSITY PROFESSORS or the AMERICAN FEDERATION OF TEACHERS. Unclassified employees serve primarily in teaching, research, and/or administrative positions.
The UASC ("U-ask"), in 425 Smith Memorial Student Union (5-4005), facilitates the transition of newly admitted/enrolled students and works to promote academic success for continuing students. After attending New Student Orientation, all new students should seek advising in the UASC during their first 24 credits at the University. In addition to academic advising, UASC services include academic support for the specially admitted and academically dismissed students, services for students with disabilities, advising and assistance for transfer students (especially those in the University's co-admissions programs), student-athlete advising, and advising and referral for veterans.
