Leave, Family Medical Leave Act/Oregon Family Medical Leave Act/Parental Leave

FMLA requires covered employers to provide up to 12 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave to "eligible" employees for certain family and medical reasons. Please contact the Benefits Manager in the Office of Human Resources, 302 University Services Building, 5-4926. Also see FMLA.

Leave, Military Training

A state employee who is a member of the National Guard or of any reserve component of the armed forces of the United States is entitled to a leave of absence with pay not exceeding 15 calendar days or 11 working days in any calendar year. Annual summer camp will not count against earned vacation time.

Leave With Pay (LWP)/Leave Without Pay (LWOP)

LWP and LWOP may be granted under special circumstances upon approval by the appropriate department chair/area supervisor, the Dean/Director, and the Provost/Vice President.


Lecturer is a rank that may be used for faculty who are hired at less than .50 annualized fte, and who have limited formal academic preparation, but whose professional achievement and scholarship warrant an academic rank.

The BRANFORD PRICE MILLAR LIBRARY supports the instructional and research programs of the university. Services provided by the library include reference and research assistance, library instruction, interlibrary loan, and reserve reading. The collection contains some 1.5 million volumes and subscribes to approximately 10,000 print journal and newspaper subscriptions, over 19,000 electronic journals and over 100 online databases. In addition to books and journals, the Library has collections of microforms, maps, compact discs, phonograph records, films and videotapes, DVDs, and state, federal, and international documents. The Libraryâ„¢s collection is accessible through VIKAT, the online catalog. The Library is a member of the Orbis Cascade Alliance of academic libraries in the Pacific Northwest. Members include all Oregon University System institutions, the public four-year institutions in Washington state and many four year liberal arts colleges in the region, including Portlandâ„¢s Lewis & Clark, Reed, Pacific and University of Portland. PSU faculty have direct borrowing privileges from all of these libraries and may place requests for books from the ORBIS CASCADE ALLIANCE SUMMIT CATALOG. These requests have a two-day turnaround time.

  • Each academic department has an assigned subject librarian/information consultant who works with the department to develop the Library collection, instruct students in research strategies and information literacy and provide in-depth reference and research assistance.   • The Library's WEBSITE provides extensive information about the Library's services, resources and policies and provides a portal to the Library's online resources.

Library, Borrowing Privileges

PSU faculty with current PSU photo ID may check out PSU books for the academic year. No fines are collected from faculty members during the academic year with the following exceptions: items recalled for placement on reserve or to fulfill a hold placed by another Library user, Summit materials borrowed from other libraries, or items borrowed through Interlibrary Loan. PSU items checked out to faculty may be renewed once and then must be physically returned to the Library. Items not returned before the renewal period due date will accrue fines. Most non-circulating materials may be checked out to faculty for three days. Such materials should be taken to the Circulation counter for processing.

Library, Interlibrary Loan

The Library offers extensive Interlibrary Loan services for journal articles not available at PSU and for books and documents not owned in the Orbis/Cascade consortium. Journal articles are normally receied electronically, with a turnaround time of two to three days. The Interlibrary Loan office is located on the second floor of the Library. Faculty can initiate their ILL accounts and requests online at the ILL homepage: ILL.

Library, New Book Orders

Faculty members play an important role in building the library's collections. All faculty members are urged to recommend books in their fields of interest for purchase by the library. Usually academic department have one faculty member who is designated as the departmental library representative; recommendations for books to be ordered should be sent to this individual who passes them on to the appropriate subject librarian. Contacting the subject librarian with requests is also appropriate.

Library, Reserve

Reserve reading lists must be received by the Reserve Library at least four weeks prior to the start of the quarter. Lists received after that date will be processed in order received. Personally owned materials, such as homework answers, sample exams, computer disks, videotapes, etc., may also be put on reserve. All reserve materials are subject to PSU Library Copyright Policy. Please allow at least 48 hours for processing. Reserve request forms may be obtained on the Reserves web site, see COURSE RESERVES or may be obtained at the Circulation desk.

Library, Virtual Reference

The Library offers an email based reference service: ASK A LIBRARIAN. PSU also participates in L-NET, a statewide, live, chat-based reference service.

Lost and Found

The campus Lost and Found Office is located in the Campus Public Safety Office at 1939 SW Broadway (5-4407). Hours vary and are posted outside the office. See LOST AND FOUND.
