Grades, Submission of

Grades are submitted online. Faculty grade web input is generally available 24 hours a day. The University deadline for submitting grades is 5:00 p.m. on the Tuesday immediately following final exam week. Website for posting grades.

Grades, Posting

It is a violation of state and federal law to post student grades with student names or social security numbers. Graded papers and exams should be made available only in department/area offices and should be returned directly to the student.

Grading System

The undergraduate and graduate grading system gives students the choice of taking certain courses designated by departments/areas for either differentiated (A, A-, B, B-, etc.) or undifferentiated (pass or no pass) grades. Students may drop or change their grading option through the fifth week of the term. An undergraduate "P" usually equals a C- grade or better; incompletes convert to F or NP grades after a specified deadline; a graduate "P" equals a B- grade or better. Refer to the PSU Bulletin for complete details concerning the grading system.

Graduate Assistants

Graduate Assistants must be admitted students who complete a minimum of 9 graduate credits each term (except Summer term) and show satisfactory progress toward an advanced academic degree. For more information see TERMS OF APPOINTMENT and STIPENDS or call the Office of Graduate Studies (5-3423).

Grievances, Faculty

The University has two grievance procedures. One is mandated by the State Board of Higher Education and operates outside of the collective bargaining process. This process is described in OAR 577-042 and may be viewed on line at OAR 577-042. The other type involves a contractual grievance process through either the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) AAUP or American Federation of Teachers (AFT) AFT collective bargaining agreements. Each process for filing a grievance is described in the appropriate bargaining agreement; the necessary forms are also included in the agreements. The bargaining agreements can be viewed online at either AAUP or AFT.
