University hosts emergency response "Train the Trainer Program"
The PSU Public Safety Office Emergency Management Unit in conjunction with the Portland Office of Emergency Management, recently hosted Michigan State University's Campus Community Emergency Management Response Team "Train the Trainer Program" through a grant from the Department of Homeland Security.
The training took place Nov. 6-8 at University Place and drew more than 35 college and university safety/security personnel from Ottawa Canada to Southern California. Personnel from the Oregon and Portland Emergency Management offices also attended and observed the trainings, including sharing best practices at university campuses.
Three members of the PSU Emergency Management Unit and two additional PSU staff attended the training. The program produced newly certified instructors, who will develop on campus training. The Portland State unit is planning to develop a course for spring 2008. For more information, visit the Web site www.pdx.edu/cpso/.
