Sue Taylor, Art History faculty, was featured in Portland Community Colleges' annual week-long Art Beat celebration, presenting two lectures on “Eva Hesse and the Absurd” at the Rock Creek and Cascade campuses, May 15.
26 May 2009 Ken Stedman presents two invited seminars on viruses
Ken Stedman, Biology faculty, presented two invited seminars on his lab research at University of Copenhagen in Denmark, May 11, and at Kiel University in Germany, April 27. The seminars were titled “Viruses from Hell: Viruses of the Extremely Thermophilic Archaeon Sulfolobus” and “Viruses from Hell: Fuselloviruses from Portland to Kiel and Beyond.”
26 May 2009 Ken Ruoff presents at Emerging Democracies conference
Ken Ruoff, History faculty, presented a paper titled “The Role of the Japanese Monarch, 1868-Present” at the Emerging Democracies in the 21st Century conference sponsored by the Bhutan Centre for Media and Democracy, in Paro, Bhutan. The conference brought together experts who are advising the Bhutanese governement on the role of monarchies in democracies, which will be useful for the country's young king.

Susan Wladaver-Morgan, Pacific Historical Review, chaired and commented on a session, “Women and the Uses of Literacy,” at the Western Association of Women Historians conference in Santa Clara, Calif., April 30-May 2. She also wrote and performed in the musical “Our Smart Women” as part of the association's 40th-anniversary festivities.

James Woods, Economics faculty, was on Think Out Loud talking about K-12 budget cuts and a bill in the Oregon legislature to provide additional flexibility to school districts on services provided and public reporting.

The papers were titled “Fish Bioenergetics Models Coupled with Hydrodynamic and Water Quality Models” and “Use and Abuse of Water Quality Models.”
