Professors Christine Rose and Gina Greco will discuss their translation of Le Ménagier de Paris (The Good Wife's Guide), a medieval household book, Nov. 17 at 4 p.m. in 160 Millar Library.
02 Nov 2009 Charles Deemer releases DVD of comedy telecast
Charles Deemer, English adjunct faculty, has released a 25th anniversary DVD of Christmas at the Juniper Tavern, his award-winning comedy that was telecast by Oregon Public Broadcasting in 1984. A free showing will occur on Dec. 9 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Blackbird Wineshop, 4323 NE Fremont.

Tom Buell, English emeritus faculty, and Joan Buell are showing their work in an exhibit entitled "Two Lifetimes" at Trinity Cathedral in Northwest Portland through Oct. 25. It is open weekdays during business hours; Sundays, 8 a.m. to noon; and Wednesday evenings until 7 p.m. Tom Buell is also showing his sculpture at Tufenkian's Showroom, NW 10th and Glisan, Oct. 1, 3, and 4.

A story about Gwartney and her daughters was also the central feature of the week of March 23 This American Life broadcast. The book has received positive reviews in The Chicago Tribune, The Baltimore Sun, The Cleveland Plains Dealer, Willamette Week, the Oregonian, the Seattle Times, Bitch magazine, and many others.

26 Jan 2009 Debra Gwartney receives literary fellowship
Debra Gwartney, English faculty, is one of six Oregon writers awarded a literary fellowship from the Oregon Commission on the Arts. She also won second prize (from 1,600 entries) in the recent Family Circle fiction contest. Her memoir. Live Through This, will be published by Houghton Mifflin on Feb. 10, when Gwartney will give a reading in New York City and will be featured on Good Morning America. As part of a one-month book tour, she'll read at Powell's on Feb. 12.
