Portland State University was one of 20 Oregon winners of the Alfred P. Sloan Award for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility.  The national award recognizes employers across the country that have successfully integrated flexible policies and practices to meet both business and employee goals.

Factors that helped PSU win the award were the University's child care services through the Helen Gordon Child Development Center and the Children's Center; flexible scheduling; telecommuting; generous leave programs; and technology that supports employees being able to work from remote locations.

The winners will be recognized at an awards luncheon put on by Family Forward Oregon on Friday, Nov. 18, at the University Club.

Family Forward, an organization affiliated with the Sloan Foundation, advocates for policies such as paid family leave, paid sick days and affordable child care that help mothers and other family caregivers stay economically secure.
