The NAFSA: Association of International Educators recently announced that Portland State is one of five colleges to receive the 2009 Senator Paul Simon Award for Campus Internationalization. The award recognizes outstanding and innovative efforts in campus internationalization.
"This huge achievement, and the national and international recognition that goes along with it, is testimony to the hard work, excellence, and creativity of the Office of International Affairs and those with whom we collaborate across the University," said Gil Latz, vice provost of International Affairs.
Awardees will be featured in the NAFSA report "Internationalizing the Campus 2009: Profiles of Success at Colleges and Universities," to be published this fall, and will also be recognized at the Annual International Plenary and Luncheon at the NAFSA annual conference on May 29 in Los Angeles. The University nominating committee included Gil Latz; Jackie Temple, Curriculum and Instruction; Marcus Ingle, Executive Leadership Institute; Kevin Kecskes, Center for Academic Excellence; Jean Campbell, Middle East Studies Center; Duncan Carter, English; and Martha Hickey, International Studies.
