RE: AY12 and AY13 Winter Break Closure Dates

This memorandum serves to advise you of PSU’s Winter Closure schedule for Academic Years 2011-12 and 2012-13 as follows:

For AY 2011-12, PSU will close from Saturday, December 24, 2011 through and including Monday, January 2, 2012.

For AY 2012-13, PSU will close from Saturday, December 22, 2012 through and including Tuesday, January 1, 2013

Winter Break Closure represents a time between the winter holidays of sufficiently reduced campus activity such that we are able to close nearly all University services, offices and other functions for the purposes of:

  • Reducing the University’s energy consumption; and
  • Providing a convenient time for impacted employees to take furlough days in manner that minimizes disruption to the campus community;

Employees should refer to the following Human Resources web link for more information about the closures, including a calendar depicting the closure dates for the two years, information about the use of leave coverage during closure periods for unclassified staff, the use of the SEIU-contracted “Special Day” for classified employees, and the potential use of the floating holiday called the Governor’s Day for unclassified staff.

During campus closure periods, building access accommodations will be made for faculty and staff responsible for critical functions and ongoing academic research projects as designated by their supervisors.  University Housing and University Place Hotel will remain open for operations; classroom and conference space in these facilities will be available for functions that need to be relocated during the closure. Also, the Campus Public Safety Office and Dispatch Center will remain open and will be providing service 24/7 during the closure period.

Thank you kindly for your attention to this matter.  Please feel free to contact the Department of Human Resources at 503-725-4926 for the Front Desk Reception Team.
