Officials cordoned off stairway at Portland State University this morning when a suspicious package was discovered, a PSU spokesman said.
Scott Gallagher of the university’s media relations department said a long tube wrapped with duct tape was found on the second floor stairway between Neuberger Hall and the Smith Memorial Student Union. The buildings are connected by an annex, according to a campus map.
“We take the safety of our students and staff seriously so we’re being very careful,’’ Gallagher said.
The interagency Metro Bomb Squad removed the device without incident at around 11 a.m. An official at the scene told The Oregonian the tube appeared to contain a poster.
