(Portland, Ore.) May 23, 2013 — The Oregon Geographic Alliance (OGA) at Portland State University will act as fiscal agent and collaborator on a $75,000 grant from the John and Betty Gray Geography Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation. The grant will provide funding to develop an implementation plan to strengthen geography education in Oregon.
OGA and geography education experts from Western Oregon University, Oregon State University and University of Oregon have formed a partnership to design and implement a plan that will improve geography education in Oregon’s K-12 schools through professional development, materials development, community outreach, and advocacy. The goal of the group is to lay the groundwork for Oregon high school graduates to achieve geographic literacy by the year 2025.
