Faculty reach four-year agreement with PSU on a new contract

(Portland, Ore.) April 8, 2016 —Portland State University (PSU) and the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) have reached an agreement on a new labor contract for faculty and other academic and student support employees. It represents 400 hours of bargaining and makes significant changes to the previous bargaining agreement.

“During this round of negotiations, we used an Interest-Based Bargaining process that allowed us to focus on problem-solving issues rather than take opposing positions,” said Wim Wiewel, president of PSU. “It wasn’t always easy, but it worked thanks to the hard work of everyone involved.”

The new four-year contract includes:

  • Two percent salary increase for year one.
  • Annual Cost of living increases pegged to the CPI-U for Portland/Salem metropolitan area for years two to four
  • Salary market adjustments for tenure and non-tenure track faculty
  • Sabbatical pay increases
  • Covers a four-year term instead of two

"This 4 year contract begins to address many long standing concerns for our membership,” said Pam Miller, president of PSU-AAUP. “We look forward to working with administration and the Board of Trustees as the complexities of this agreement move to implementation."

The agreement was ratified by AAUP and approved by Wiewel on Tuesday, April 5.
