PSU Friends of History commemorates the pioneering efforts of Portland Policewoman Lola Greene Baldwin with a free program by alumna and author Gloria Myers Tuesday, April 1, at 7 p.m. in 338 Smith Union. Baldwin was the first policewoman hired under civil service rules in a municipality in the United States.

Mo Wang, Psychology faculty, had an article chosen for the HR Division Scholarly Achievement Award for 2007. The article, "Profiling Retirees in the Retirement Transition and Adjustment Process: Examining the Longitudinal Change Patterns of Retirees' Psychological Well-Being," appeared in the Journal of Applied Psychology. It was selected by peer review as one of the most significant published articles on human resource management available to division members in 2007. Wang will receive the award at the Academy of Management meeting in August.

Ian Stude, Transportation Parking staff, is now certified to teach a variety of bicycling courses after completing a seminar, passing a written and presentation examination, and having fulfilled curriculum requirements. The courses, designed by the League of American Bicyclists, provide effective bicycle safety education through classroom and on-bike instruction to both beginner and experienced cyclists. Look for courses offered by Stude, who also manages PSU's Bicycle Cooperative.

The grant will allow them to continue the work they started in fall 2007, when DHS awarded the PSU Center for Academic Excellence $100,000 to launch a leadership development, civic engagement, and mentorship program with 10 high-need Portland public schools.
